SNE Special Interest Division

Since the early days of SNE, there has been support among the membership for the Society to take an active role in educating members about nutrition policy. The membership has supported establishing and maintaining an active public policy program, currently carried out by the Advisory Committee on Public Policy (ACPP). The resolutions process has been one of the mechanisms for members or groups of members to bring forth policy positions for discussion and vote by the membership. Resolutions provide a route for members to propose that SNE adopt a position, take an action, or endorse a policy or principles in a formal manner.

The resolutions listed below reflect a historical perspective of issues of importance to SNE members over the life of the organization.  For information on how to introduce a new resolution, click here.

Modified Resolutions

Final - 2007 Support Nutrition Labeling and Nutritionally Improved Menu Offerings in Fast-Food and Other Chain Restaurants

The final version of the Resolution to Support Nutrition Labeling and Nutritionally Improved Menu Offerings in Fast-Food and Other Chain Restaurants has been passed.  A draft of the resolution was initially posted on the SNE website prior to the 2006 annual conference, and then discussed during the resolution forum held at the conference in San Francisco.  Based on feedback received on-line and at the forum, authors modified the third recommendation so that it now says restaurants should work to reformulate products to reduce added sugars and sweeteners, in addition to the other suggestions made previously.  Members had the opportunity to vote on this resolution during the regular balloting in the winter.

Final - 2007 Support Responsible Food Marketing to Children

The final version of the Resolution to Support Responsible Food Marketing to Children has been passed.  A draft of the resolution was initially posted on the SNE website prior to the 2006 annual conference, and then discussed during the resolution forum held at the conference in San Francisco.  Based on feedback received on-line and at the forum, authors modified the language of the first and third recommendations prior to submitting the final version.  The first recommendation clarifies that the intent is for SNE to collaborate with others to address marketing to children.  The third recommendation now indicates that SNE supports other nutrition education programs, such as Team Nutrition, Cooperative Extension, and EFNEP.  Members had the opportunity to vote on this resolution during the regular balloting in the winter.
