What is SNE?

The Society for Nutrition Education (SNE) represents the unique professional interests of nutrition educators in the United States and worldwide. SNE is dedicated to promoting effective nutrition education and communication to support and improve healthful behaviors and has a vision of healthy communities through nutrition education and advocacy. SNE provides forums for sharing innovative strategies for nutrition education, expressing a range of views on important issues, and disseminating research findings. Members of SNE educate individuals, families, fellow professionals, and students, and influence policy makers about nutrition, food, and health.

Who Belongs to SNE?
SNE is an international community of professionals actively involved in nutrition education and health promotion. Their work takes place in colleges and universities, government agencies, cooperative extension, communications and public relations firms, the food industry, voluntary and service organizations and with other reliable places of nutrition and health education information.  Click here to view the SNE membership categories.

"SNE's 'smallness' allows me to feel like a member of the SNE family. As a faculty member who teaches nutrition to elementary education majors, I can't think of a better source of inspiration than the journal, the SNEEZE listserv, and my colleagues in SNE."
- Carol Friesen, Faculty, Ball State University, Indiana

SNE Membership Benefits…Tools You Will Use:

Public Policy Updates

The primary purpose of SNE's Public Policy Program is to make recommendations on member identified priority public policy issues (e.g., Child Nutrition Reauthorization, Food Guide Pyramid, and Improved Nutrition and Physical Activity) to Congress, the White House and government agencies. By 2010, SNE will establish a plan to expand the purpose of SNE's Public Policy Program to include building the advocacy skills of SNE members.

Recent SNE Public Policy activity can be found online.  The SNE Public Policy Web page includes positions, policy statements and letters, in addition to legislative and regulatory updates and links to Federal nutrition-related web sites.

Networking Opportunities

Gain the opportunity to discuss ideas and thoughts with leading nutrition educators worldwide.

Publications

The Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior (JNEB): JNEB is the official publication of the Society. Issued bimonthly, this peer-reviewed scientific periodical offers cutting-edge research articles and reports, contrasting viewpoints on hot topics, creative program ideas, and professional reviews of recently released materials for nutrition educators. A subscription to
the Journal is included with SNE membership and is available in print or online. The online version includes a sophisticated search engine that makes it easy to locate and archive articles of interest, and to circulate abstracts to colleagues. The Journal is also indexed in MedLine, PsychINFO and other major databases.
