RTI’s Public Health and Environment Division seeks an experienced leader in nutrition and/or obesity policy analysis with a doctoral degree related to nutrition, public health, or public policy, and relevant leadership experience in academia, government, industry, or consulting.
Candidates must have the ability to conceptualize policy problems, design and implement appropriate research methods, apply appropriate quantitative and qualitative techniques, and effectively communicate both orally and in writing with clients and staff including non-technical audiences. RTI provides extensive support to assist in all aspects of the research process.
Experience/Credentials Needed to Apply:
- Organize and lead strategic planning and business development activities in nutrition and obesity policy research
- Interact with other programs and divisions in RTI to contribute to a comprehensive, cell-to-society model for research on obesity

Candidates should possess a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. Relevant areas of experience include analysis of a broad array of policies aimed at improving nutritional outcomes and/or reducing the prevalence of obesity; studies of the effectiveness of policy, behavioral interventions, and community programs to improve nutrition and address obesity in children, families, and adults; analysis of nutrition programs (for example, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program [SNAP], Women, Infants, and Children [WIC], and the National School Lunch Program), analysis of dietary recall and food frequency data; analysis of the effectiveness of nutrition interventions and policies; or related nutrition research for the USDA, CDC, FDA, and/or the National Institutes of Health. An emphasis on public policy research with strong analytical and statistical analysis skills is required.

The Department of Health & Human Development at Montana State University (MSU) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Food and Nutrition and Sustainable Food Systems. The department is located in the College of Education, Health and Human Development (EHHD). The departmental mission is to enrich human well-being through teaching research and outreach. This position begins January 2011 or August 2011 and is a nine-month, tenure-track, appointment with potential for summer employment. This will be an instructional position (50% teaching, 40% research, and 10% service) in an ADA accredited didactic program in dietetics, an inter-college program in Sustainable Foods and Bioenergy Systems, and an interdisciplinary master s program in Health Promotion and EducationFamily, Food, and Community Health Sciences.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate courses such as, but not limited to: general nutrition, community nutrition, international nutrition and food culture, culinary foodservice systems management and quantity foods practicum; teach graduate courses in an area of specialty that can contribute to departmental graduate programming.
- Advise undergraduate dietetic students, supervise undergraduate field experiences (internships.

- Develop an extramurally funded research program.

- Doctorate or ABD in food and nutrition or related field. (ABD - ability to be terminally degreed one year after the date of hire. Tenure track status begins after completion of terminal degree)
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels and a proven ability to be an effective instructor.
- Record of or potential to develop an independent research program in the area of food and nutrition, resulting in peer-reviewed publications and external funding.
- Proven ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary fashion through teaching, research and outreach efforts with faculty in other health related disciplines such as community health, health and human performance, family and consumer sciences, etc.
- Practical experience in the area of sustainable food systems and the public health implications of nutrition.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Dietetic registration.
