Executive Committee Meeting via Teleconference

July 5, 2005

 

Present: Elizabeth Crockett, Patricia Kendall, Robin Orr, Carol Giesecke, Shirley Gerrior, Mary Ann Passi, ex officio and SNE staff.

 

Call to order: E. Crockett called the meeting to order at 3:05p.m.

 

Welcome and President's Comments: E. Crockett applauded the SNE conference planning committee and SNE staff for their excellent work on the annual conference.

 

P. Kendall moved approval of the Agenda. The motion passed unanimously.

 

Executive Director Comments: MA Passi reported:

Staff Activity: SNE staff is busy with final preparations for the annual conference.

Membership Reports: Despite new memberships, member retention is less than target. SNE staff is aggressively managing membership renewals and working with Board and membership committee on this issue.

 

R. Orr moved approval of the Consent Agenda. The motion passed unanimously.

 

Action Agenda:

  ADA paper: “Nutrition across the spectrum of aging:” P. Kendall moved approval of SNE's endorsement of this paper. The motion passed unanimously.

Nominating Committee Recommendation: The committee recommended that if SNE volunteers are elected to multiple positions, they must resign their other position if they are elected to the Board. P. Kendall moved that the following language be added to the policies: If a member currently serving in an SNE leadership position and is a candidate for the Board, once elected to the Board, they must forfeit their other position once the Board term begins. The motion passed unanimously.

 

Strategic Dialogue:

  Issues and Resolutions Workshop Agenda: E. Crockett described workshop format and content. It will be offered as a skill building session to interested conference attendees. P Kendall stated an addendum to the program is needed for its inclusion.

Conference Board Itinerary: MA Passi will revise itinerary based on requested changes and include revision in BOD conference packet.

 

Old Business:

  Plans to Collaborate with USDA: E. Crockett shared SNE-Federal Partnership Proposal authored by N. Gaston. This proposal requests SNE's Communications Division and Social Marketing Division to lead this effort and provides a timeline for implementation. SNE leadership will be briefed on this proposal during the leadership workshop at the annual conference.

 

New Business:

  R. Orr provided current status and thinking on session track sponsorship for SNE meetings.

 

Adjournment: C. Giesecke motioned to adjourn. Meeting adjourned at 4:15p.m.
